“How can I tell if my installer is carrying out gas and electrical work in my home legally”?
Before the work commences, ask to see credentials. Not all KBB installers will be registered or deemed competent to undertake gas and electrical work in your home. Gas installers must be Gas Safe Register registered (NOT CORGI as of the 1st April 2009), and electricians must be Part-P (BS7671 regulation for Scotland) compliant. See our Useful Links section to validate the installers credentials.

“Will iKBBI support me if I have issues with an iKBBI member”?
Yes. We provide clear and practical online advice on Resolving Complaints, to include advice to customers on where to seek professional help. If proven, we will take positive action against the installer which may result in a termination of membership. We don’t act as an arbitration authority for individual cases; however, consumers can download our Standards & Guidelines document which our members are bound by. This can be used as a measure against the workmanship in your home and a lever in dispute.

“My installation cost seems really high. Is this normal”?
Professional installations are carried out by experienced craftsman who use the best tools and don’t cut corners. Their time and expertise does come at a price, and it’s not unusual for installations to cost the same as the product (and in some cases more). Make sure you budget for this and of course for a contingency.

Get plenty of quotes. 3-4 is ideal, and make sure that each installer itemises the installation with associated costs. Be wary of a kitchen, bedroom or bathroom installer who offers a price too good to be true, as it probably is!

“What are fair payment terms for my installer? I’ve been asked to pay for the lot up front”.
We advise not to part with 100% of the balance up front. You have no leverage with your installer should things not go to plan. Fair payment terms would be anything in the region of 50% up front (to pay for materials and sub-contracted labour), and the balance on the last day of the installation only when you’re fully satisfied.

“My installer said he’s applied for Membership to the iKBBI but hasn’t got his ID card yet”.
Installers are only registered members once they receive their card. We’re happy to validate any installer who’s in the process of applying, simply call our office on 0845 519 2007

“I am not completely satisfied with the workmanship. How should I deal with this”?
Often issues can be resolved as easily as speaking to your installer. We have produced some tips and advice on how to Resolve a Complaint, so feel free to use this tool.

“What makes iKBBI different from other organisations out there”?
First and foremost the iKBBI is the first and only Institute dedicated to professional KBB installers and retailers offering an installed product. We are experts at what we do and have a vast experience within the industry. Our members are specialists also and install the product week in, week out. Often builders and property maintenance businesses offer an installation however, you must ask yourself “are they experts, if they don’t install the volumes”?
