Before we decided to set up iKBBI in December 2007, there were no industry standards for recommended kitchen fitters in place and no recognised organisations. This meant that many of you would not know the difference between a qualified professional fitter and a cowboy trader, through no fault of your own.
We came to the conclusion that the requirement for recommended kitchen fitters was very big and something needed to be done in order to provide an environment where the customer would feel satisfied that they were receiving work set to a high standard.
All of our recommended kitchen fitters must meet or exceed our strict criteria in order to be considered for membership of our organisation; those who fail to meet the standards are simply rejected. Those who do meet the criteria are ones who can satisfy the institute, not only providing references of work undertaken but also have a minimum of two years experience in the kitchen fitting sector. They also need to be Part-P approved in electrical installations or provide details of the contractor they use who is and also Gas Safe registered, or again, provide their contractor details.
The iKBBI recommended kitchen fitters must agree to have work inspected to ensure that it meets our high standards and carry Public Liability Insurance up to a minimum of £1 million.
Should you require any further details about our recommended kitchen fitters then please feel free to visit our consumer information section, where you will be able to validate a member. For those wishing to become recommended kitchen fitters, please visit the installers section. Alternatively we can be contacted by email or telephone should you have any questions about our organisation and services or any of our members.
